Theres 3 different 02A's, no counting 4 cyl and VR6: The VR6 takes the same diff, in Corrados, A3, and Passat VR6. Late TDi's look like an 02A, but lateTDi's take an 02J differential, with bolt on CV flanges.
send me your trans code to be sure, Peloquin Limited Slip Differentials comes with both diff. bearings and an aluminium speedo gear pre-installed, the bolt kit, 8 O-rings and the end-cover rubber gasket. Attention: 3rd type include early G60 02A's all 02A's with production code ATA 12099 and under, require a special bolt kit, due to smaller ring gear bolt holes, and it's $50 additional. You will still get the regular 02A bolt kit, which you can sell, or the best way, id to change your ring and pinion gears, and order the VR6 02A, and you'll have a much stronger setup

This is also a perfect time to get the later and larger ring gear holes and pinion gears.

The 02J, 1999 1/2 and up, all 5 spd A4 VW's, Peloquin Limited Slip Differential comes with both diff. bearings and speedo gear pre-installed, the bolt kit, 8 O-rings and the end-cover rubber gasket.

There's 2 kinds of 02Js, the late 02J has bigger ring gear holes, 2004 and up, and earlier years with dealer replaced transaxles. Regarding March 1, 2004, and up, 02J's:
"V.W. has made a suppression to the 02J 5-speed type transaxle. As of Vehicle production date March 01 2004 the stock differential ring gear diameter has been reduced from 114mm to 113mm to allow for a larger rivet. Well now this means we have to make another differential to accept the change and make another bolt kit. So far V.W. has no such bolt kit and may not make one. The old bolt kit is 11.5mm diameter and the new would be 12.25mm. This will only take approximately 30 to 45 days for the differentials since were in production now but the bolt kit will take about 6 to 8 weeks. If there is a car down issue then the only other alternative is to replace the ring and pinion with the earlier version. NOTE: The Vehicle production date is found on your door jam. Peloquins is in no way responsible for production date mistakes, the above production date is to the best of our knowledge correct. If more information should arise we will inform all."
Gary Peloquin

CAUTION ALL 02M Owners: Do not use a lightened flywheel on the 02M, the stock clutch and flywheel is tuned for the 02M, for weight distribution, and a light flywheel will pickup harmonics from the mainshaft. It sounds like the trans is about to self destruct. The 02M uses a huge clutch setup, and doesn't really need a bigger one. Thanks to LittleFerris: This is what it will sound like < Click

Peloquin 020 bolt kits are no longer avaialble, ARP 020 bolt kits are $80 including US shipping.

The 02C 1992-97 Syncro, come with differential bearings pre-installed.

All Peloquin differentials come with a full lifetime replacement warranty and free inspections.

Poor man's posi aka 80% Pelolok shim kit:

It's $99 shipped in the US including 2 oem puck seals, and the best part is that you can install this kit without pulling the trans, it can be installed either as a 40%, or as an 80% kit. It's easier to install this kit if the trans is off the car.

The 40% and 80% Pelolok Stage 020 shim kits only fit the 020 transaxle, that came with the; A1/A2/A3 2L Volkswagens. This is the same as the Velocity kit.

The 80% is $99 USD FREE US shipping, and with 2 oem puck seals, so it can be installed as a 40% or 80% kit.
Canada is $115 USD, and they are shipped via Priority mail.
I'll ship pretty much anywhere in the world for $115 via Priority mail.
The Pelolok 80% kit consists of; the 10MMx1.5 CV flange tool, 2 CV flange seals, 2 C clips, 2 80% brass shims, 2 thrust washers, 2 anodized aluminum puck seals with O-rings and 2 6mm retaining bolts. Note: This kit is recommended for 020 transaxles with 100mm CV flanges, if you have 90mm CV's (e-mail me with your year, make, model, or trans code) do not use: [2 anodized aluminum puck seals with O-rings and 2 6mm retaining bolts], until you upgrade to 100mm CV's. Use the OEM CV flange puck seals, I sell them for $1/each 2 are needed.

The 020 40% kit is NOW available for cars with 90mm axles - $89 shipped!

I recommend getting the 80% kit, and installing it as a 40% kit if you have 90mm axles, that way you can easily upgrade to 100mm axles and increase the slip effect to 80%.

You can also grind away at the trans case and fit the 100mm flanges. Peloquin 020 bolt kit, materials exceed the OEM specs - 171 498 088 No longer available.

020 OEM CV flange puck seals for $1/each

020 8V/1V/2L Clutch pushrod seal $6

020 16V and A3 020 input shaft seal $7

If you find a better price out there, I will match or beat a competitor's price.
Just e-mail me with the price, application, their e-mail and website info.

Information:

020 bolt kit (171 498 088) = the bolts that replace the factory rivets, that hold the ring gear to the differential. The tranny has to be removed, split open, then the rivets on the differential have to be drilled off and then you re-install the ring gear and diff. using the bolt kit. This is the proper way to attach the ring gear to the differential, but it does not offer any performance improvement, other than keeping your trans from self-machining.
Ron Pieper Scirocco.org post

80% 020 Limited slip kit = a kit that increases the factory 2% limited slip effect to 80%. The 80% Pelolok kit practically eliminates torque steer, and the inside wheelspin, that you get when turning onto a road. The 020 80% Pelolok kit can be installed without removing the transaxle, and will work with the Peloquin differential, as well as the factory differential.

80% customer comments, pasted from the Scirocco List 11.26.03:

Well after I got Ron to Install the Bolt kit and 80% LSD kit on my 9a, I saw immediate changes....

1) stopped pulling to one side when doing off the line full throttle pulls...

2) both wheels spin in gravel in first/second instead of having one wheel pulling, Yanking the car around and me having to overcorrect on each gear.

3) smoother acceleration feeling, loving the look of the front end lifting evenly when pushing gears through their pattern on dry pavement.

4) more torque to ground with less "burn tires" syndrome.

5) got great power to pull away to get on /off /pass highway speeds, where before timing was utterly important (read # 1)

Gary Peloquin described customers' reactions to the Stage II Diff Upgrade this way:

"The first reaction is that people really notice the difference in the steering response under power. The car steers tighter - on the throttle the car goes toward the apex. The guys who live in the snow and the ice really love the added winter traction". If those descriptions sound to you like the way people describe the action of the high-priced Torsional differential, you're on the right track. Make no mistake, this under $100 easy to install product is no substitute for a $1,000-plus Torsional installation. However, it's a great alternative for the person on a limited budget or the racer in classes that do not allow a full-on limited slip or special differential.
The original pre-load differential was introduced with the second year GTI, back in 1983 on the 1984 models. New, it felt like a limited slip on the rack, but one turn by hand and it was clear that the two or three pounds of preload it offered was of little or no value as a limited slip. It was probably added by the factory to reduce vibration, but that didn't stop the less-scrupulous tuners from touting it as a limited slip, even with only 2%.
This upgrade isn't something new, either. Peloquin's came out with a Stage I version with about 25 pounds of breakaway torque some five years ago, after a solid year of development and Peloquin's-style testing - which is to say severe testing. In February of 1996, Peloquin introduced the Stage II 80% Diff Upgrade with about 85 pounds of breakaway torque, obtained by further modifications to the brass washers and more preload.
The 80% is obtained by the aluminum puck seals being bolted to the differential, and doubles the pressure on the brass shims.

****** Installation ******

These kits should be installed in transmissions that are in good working condition. The kit is not designed to correct an existing problem, except for leaking CV flange seals. The kit comes with 2 CV flange seals and the spring compressor tool, that is needed to re-install the CV flanges, if you have leaking CV flange seals, this is the ideal time to do this upgrade. Repair any deficiencies before installing the kit, Before beginning it is recommended that the repair manual be consulted for transmission configuration and parts familiarization.

1. Support the car in a secure position with the front wheels removed.

2. Disconnect both left and right CV's from transaxle using 8mm 12 point socket. It is possible to install the kit with only the inner CV removed. To increase access, the axle assembly can be removed entirely by removing the outer axle nut. Before placing the car on jack stand, loosen the outer axle nut. Once the car is supported. Remove the 3 bolts securing the ball joint and the entire axle assembly can be removed. Alignment should be checked later as the ball joint removal may change camber settings. Or disconnect the ball joint, then there’s no alignment needed.

3. Remove excess grease from the drive flange and remove the rubber cap (seal) with a screwdriver.

4. Install the lOmm stud from the flange tool into the differential shaft. (Examine threads prior to threading bolt to verify condition of the threads. If necessary. clean with tap) Slip the clamp over the stud and install the nut. Tighten to keep pressure applied to the flange. The flange is under pressure from the spring and could come off with force if not properly removed.

5. Remove the snap ring and discard (new ring supplied).

6. Remove the flange tool. Save the concave washer if the 40% kit is being installed. It is not used on the 80% kit.

7. The flange has a spring and spring seat. Clean and set these aside.

8. The factory brass ring is now visible. it is one piece but most likely broken Into two pieces Remove it from the shaft. It is not reused. (It may be easier to remove with the seal In step 9 removed.)

9. Remove the flange seal being careful not to damage the seal retaining surface.

10. Install the new lock ring with 45" surface toward differential. (the flange spring seat may aid in installation). With lock seated, place the thrust washer over the shaft. It can be held in place with a thin layer of assembly lube or grease.

11. Install new seal. Place a thin film of grease on the O.D. and the l.D.. Tap in using a flat round plate. With seal In place, verify that the thrust washer is still in place.

12. Install flange with spring seat on spring. Use the tool supplied to seat flange fully on to the splined shaft. Install the concave washer (pressure side out) on the 40% kit only. Install the new snap rIng on both the 40 and 80% kits.

13. Remove flange tool and install rubber cap seal.

14. Install CV's and torque to 33 ft./lbs.

========================================================================= ****** 80% kit ****** 1. Complete all steps as in above through #11. Do not install concave washer, install snap ring only and remove tool.

2. Install O-ring on cap. Clean threads in diflerential shaft and place small amount of red loctite on threads of differential shaft (bolt has loctite applied). Install cap assembly and torque 33-35 ft/lbs. (Cap can be held by placing 28mm bolts in flange and securing from rotation by using a pry bar, or screwdriver across the bolts.) Install the CV's as usual.
